Kelly's Cancer Blog

Little update

I have not been on in a while, so I thought I'd update you all. Had my first post MRI in January and all was fine, my next one is April 5, so I have my fingers crossed! Past few months have been pretty good, random appetite problems sometimes but thats really it. I lost a total of 25 lbs and I was never big to begin with, but I am getting lots of compliments! Been working as much as possible at good ol' Pf Changs to pay off bills so I can go to Pennsylvania in May to see my grandma and friends. Hair is growing back, looks like a babys hair lol. I still have a love/hate relationship with my wig, my mom named her "hair-iet" like Harriet, to make me laugh lol. Whats funny is I get SO many compliments on my hair and the highlights, more than I ever did with my real hair. But I am nervous about the hot florida heat coming up soon, I won't be laying on the beach like I usually do. Also to any of you girls that lost your lashes/eyebrows....I bought this stuff called Neulash(get it cheaper on Amazon) but It really works! My lashes grew so fast and long they looked fake and I had to actually cut them! I have tried so many things and nothing worked like this! I also put it on my brows too and they came back nice; however, i would never give up my MAC brow pencil. I also take a Biotin pill(5000mcg) and that also works!

glad you're feeling good :) thanks for the tip!
Hi Kelly! I'm so glad to hear that you are doing well and making a good recovery from your treatment. As for the wig, I never went that route, instead I chose to wear a ballcap (which by the way looks very cool on the beach--something to think about!). Continue on the road to recovery young lady--I know you have this thing licked. Take care. Hugs-- Martha
Kelly, Glad your doing well! I don't know you and just stumbled tonight on this blog (I've avoided looking up brain cancer on the web in fear to read things that discourage and possibly make me think the worst) but my 11 year daughter has had similar experiences. Seizure in August 2010, complete tumor resection, radiation and chemo. She's a beautiful girl like you and she had had 3 clear perfect MRIs.
Dangnabits I'm a few days late but I still wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful year ahead. ~TaraF

4 treatments left!!

I can't wait till I'm done, and get to go home for good! The 26th is officially my last treatment, I made cd's for the radiation crew with my pic on it(so they don't forget me!) and songs they liked that I played on my iPod which they heard during my daily treatments. Having MY music to listen to during treatments really helped out, especially this one song 'just the way you are' by Bruno Mars, always put a smile on my face when I was feeling down. Anyways they think I have a very positive outcome from this. They never actually found any cancer cells floating around but said that bc they could be microscopic, radiation will zap them. So let's hope so!

Kelly-- I'm so glad you are almost done with radiation treatments. I know you will be glad to get out of there and go home. Please keep us posted as to how you are doing. Take care and I wish you all the best! Martha
Kelly Glad that you are doing well in treatment and that your spirits are high. You are in my prayers.

12 more treatments to go!

I have two more whole brain/spine treatments to go, then the last 10 are just spot treatments to where the tumor was. I'm actually super excited that the whole brain/spine will be over with bc that means no more laying face down in that horribly tight mask! My forehead is red from radiation so from the combo of that and the tight mask I have been getting these painful blisters on my head. If the proton center didn't have problems last week( software probs so I didn't get treatment last Monday or Tuesday) I would have already been moved on, but bc of that i only had 3 treatments this past week and now have to make up the two extra days. I still have to wear a mask for the last 10 treatments but it isn't nearly as tight and I get to lay on my back this time! These past days(thurs-Sunday) I really wasn't feeling well. No vomiting, but just had a weird feeling in my stomach, nauseous at times, but definitely no appetite, felt like there was a pit in my stomach or something. I don't know if that was from treatment or I had a bug or something. Since the beginning, I definitely have little or weird Appetite but this was different. Oh, and my oncologist took me off the temedar temporarily bc my blood count dropped, I wasn't in the danger zone but he felt it was best to take a break from it and I'll start it again when I start the spot treatment. I'm hoping my body will still be used to it so I don't get sick like I did the first day I started taking it.
finney, rcarp sent you a hug.
Hi Kelly-- I'm glad you are getting through with the roughest of the treatments and the last 10 will be easier for you. Hang in there--you are going to get through this! Martha
Hopefully they will get easier for you to handle! Sending you lots of hugs!
Keep your spirits up, you are so young and beautiful, and have so much to live for! It will get better!
